Deep Thoughts… From Marky D
When we are asked, “What are you doing these days?” What are you going to say? Most would say, going to college, and others would say, learning more about God. Yet, there are a small number of people that would say I am doing what Jesus asks of all of us, I am serving and learning to be like Him. This goes beyond just taking classes and going to chapel. It goes farther than talking with your new friends or those at your church. Where this takes you is everywhere else you go.
In your trips to the mall or to the local coffee shops, you are given the opportunity to do what Christ did, and continues to do through you, and that is love others. There are many of the students that I have met this semester who have an incredible heart and are never short of conversation for those who they meet, there are others who may seem quiet and yet pray every moment they can for those outside the campus walls.
These days, I, as well as several others, am helping in this city in the area of what is known as Urban Street Ministries. We take time each week to talk, share and spend time with those who either live in poverty or live lives that are seen as destructive. Many of you reading this are going to know at least one person outside this school, be it from your past or present, that are in need; be it anything from love to food to friendship. I challenge you to pray for them, and beyond that, I challenge you to love them, as Christ so graciously and wonderfully loves you.
That is my word to you from my lips to The Voice,
Mark Dakin
