Many people know that I (Jason Bowes) drink a lot of energy drinks. If you have been to my room you can attest to this. So I have decided to share my knowledge of different energy drinks with you the readers of EBC voice each week. What is the best taste? What gives you the biggest energy kick? And which ones should you avoid like the plague.
One of the most popular energy drinks available to the public is the ever famous Red Bull. It was one of the first energy drinks to hit Canada from the fun loving people in Austria. If one were to buy one you would be spending on average $ 2.99 a can. What does this $2.99 buy you? A can with a two-tone blue and silver back ground with two well red bulls locking horns in the centre.
What really matters is what is in the can.
The liquid itself is clear and bright neon yellow in colour. The smell is of sweetness and the best term to use is gumminess. One of the major components is the taste; it is sweet tasting almost like a handful of skittles. It is lightly carbonated like a regular pop and refreshing to drink. As one was to continue drinking the beverage it does not vary from this. Sometimes the taste of a beverage may change after drinking it for a while. This is not the case with Red Bull.
My energy level did increase when I first drank it but I really wanted to see how I would be 15 minutes later when my body was digesting it. After 15 minutes I felt alert, awake and ready to go. I did not feel jittery but I did feel very light and I felt like I could run faster.
I did not feel a “crash” as people describe it. This could also be me as a person. Whether or not you will “crash” after you energy drink will depend on you as a person.
Overall if one needs to stay awake after a long night of writing papers or needs a boost in a less than exciting class, Red Bull will help you out. Besides not being red or giving you wings I would recommend it.
