Yet again a number of EBC students lead by Tim Grace went on another Hike on February 14th to Hilton Falls Conservation Area. For some, the thaw we had the previous week led to disappointment because we had originally planned on snowshoeing, but this hike will definitely be one that I remember. On the hike other than Tim Grace we had Amy Beirnes, Helen Oviedo, Matthew Gates, Angel Taylor, Sarah Capeling, Heather Capeling and myself. The first of the two main things that stood out in my mind was the waterfall. Simply put it was amazing to see the way the mist froze along the banks of the river, creating all kinds of fascinating and wonderful ice formations. On top of that due to the recent thaw the water level was high making the waterfall even more of a sight to behold. The second thing that really stood out was the birds. Well only one bird actually, one bird that decided it wanted to land on my sandwich as I was holding it, just after I had taken a bite. That sure got a jump out of me. All in all, the hike was a nice way to spend some time with a group of people from EBC while not at EBC. We saw lots of snow and ice, as well as trees, sky and some foliage. Oh and to remind someone that Michigan is a State in the US.

Finally we had a Coffee House, displaying the amazing skills we have here at EBC. To start we had a Drama written by our very own James Moore, and it was acted by James, as well as Erica Woodford, David Dunn, Julie-Anne Wideman, Stephanie VanSpronsen, and Brandon Meyers. The play was a murder mystery with some rather good lines that had a good chuckle, and the twist itself was decent. I might want to avoid Julie-Anne carrying a pen for at least a week or two. After that we had the Coffee House portion of the night. We had two home made movie clips from Matthew Gates and Tim Johnson highlighting two major aspects of college life: Shopping at Goodwill and eating lots of Waffles that were on sale at Zehrs. The clips were quite entertaining and had a lot of good laughs. Greg Brightman read both a poem and a short story both his own, both were quite entertaining to listen to. Tiffany Fehr and Lisa Kuepfer performed one of the first musical numbers for the night, other included Daniel Weber, Graham Sweet, Jessie Golem, Christie Heemskerk, and then Brandon Meyers and Stephanie VanSpronsen, as well as Bob Edwards, Jolene Sanders and Ryan Mahon. Robbie Oleniuk would perform a very amusing and entertaining play taking just one look at just what happened when Moses was chosen by God. To top off an excellent night, all the money collected was going to the Best Buddies program and that clearly rose over a hundred dollars.

This past weekend your Emmanuel Wildcats stormed into Heritage with their “A Game” in full force, going undefeated in 5 games. With stellar team play they worked their magic all over the court and came away with the golden cleat trophy. In the final game, a nail biter, it came down to the final 30 seconds when Trevor Jacobs chipped the ball through the goalies legs to force a shootout. After a few misses by both teams in the shootout, Trevor sent a laser beam into the bottom corner of the net to secure the victory. With a pump of his fist indicating that the ball was in, Trevor was mauled by his teammates and sent the fans home happy! A legendary weekend for EBC. The team is picketing for a parade down Fergus ave after EBC’s first win in any sport in almost 10 years. The team will have an autograph session Friday March 13th in the Campus Centre.

Every Monday I eagerly anticipate the weekly ball hockey games on the pad. Not only because I get to play hockey but because I get to spend time with some good friends having fun, taking my mind off the everyday stresses of college. Although I am not too skilled in the game, it is a very fun time. I would encourage anyone to come out and participate, take pictures or cheer on my team. Hockey is usually the highlight of my week (when I don’t cost my team 12 goals)
