Note from the Editor’s Desk:
Hello everyone! Welcome back for your fifth week of studies at Emmanuel Bible College. I hope you will enjoy reading this issue of the Voice as much as I had. In this issue we have a devotional by Jesse Goulet, a poem by Rachel Schrader, Voice on the Street by Lyndsay Prowd, a Skillet Review by James Fretz (or Fretzy), “Bridal College” article by Wesley Hague, “Bubble” article by Mark Dakin and a little bit of news from Robbie Oleniuk about what’s going on with the Spiritual Life Committee. Our spotlight of the week is on EBC’s very own Melissa Doerr, our Student Council President.
On a side note, does anyone else notice the “fresh-leaf” smell on the school campus? I have to say out of all the seasons, Fall has to be one of my favourites. It’s not just the smell though; it’s the whole process of the trees shedding their leaves. In Victoria, BC there is no massive leaf-colour change; in fact the Arbutus trees mock the coming “winter” with their flowers that bloom during the rainy season (a.k.a. winter). For me though, the falling leaves symbolize change. Everything changes around you in life; fashion, government, opinions. I picture myself as a tree, as the seasons change and the leaves fall to the ground, so do the things in life that you once thought were important. However, if you hold true to the ground that supports you in Jesus Christ you will grow, despite the weather changes and your falling leaves. The more we grow, the more we learn in Christ, the more solid we will become as a Christians. I hope you have a great week and enjoy reading this week’s issue.

In the past two weeks EBC has had cause to celebrate twice! On September 26, 2009 alumni Jason and Tabitha would be married in London Ontario. From the perspective of one of the Groomsmen from this wedding, it went well, the ceremony was beautiful and a lot of fun times were expressed in the various speeches showing parts of both Jason and Tabitha’s lives.
Yet not to be outdone by Jason, alumni Jeff Hopkins was married to Brittany Fellinger the weekend after, on October 3, 2009 and once again they were married in London and the Wedding was well done as it had music done by none other than our recently married Tabitha Edgar whose honeymoon was interrupted to come and sing for Jeff’s Wedding. She sang along with another EBC student Timothy Chester.
Both weddings had a good sized contingent from EBC there to celebrate with our good friends and former classmates. This is something that all of EBC should be able to celebrate. We can congratulate these two couples and praise God for their decision to share their lives. Both of these marriages were based strongly upon a firm foundation and relationship with God and we can only praise God because of it.
To Jason, Tabitha, and Jeff: my friends whether you read this or not, I wish you the best as you approach this new stage in life. God Bless, and may the examples you all have set encourage and bless us all here who still attend EBC.

Hey there,
My name is Robbie Oleniuk and I am the Spiritual Life Coordinator on Student Council this year. Greetings to all of you who are starting your first year and to all those are back for another of many here at Emmanuel Bible College. Whether you are a commuter, live in residence, are part-time, full time, get paid by the school or pay the school I hope you have a great year and grow in the Lord each day. I have not met all of you yet and will not be able to meet everyone involved with EBC but I would like to meet as many people as I can this year though, so feel free to drop in at the Student Council office during my hours which are posted on the door or say hello to me in chapel, class or just look me up on res.
I believe God is going to do some great things at Emmanuel this year and with God’s help and your participation I believe that the Spiritual Life Committee will be able to be a part of it. As you have probably heard, the theme for this year is Freedom. The Spiritual Life Committee will be adopting that theme along with the one God put on my heart this summer which is prayer. So together that makes “Freedom to Pray.” I believe this is a very exciting theme and with support from all people who call EBC their school I believe that we can be become “The school that Prays” this year.
There are some things that I have already prepared and I would like to share them with you. Firstly there is an official prayer room in the library that will now be open whenever the library is, as long as the room has not been booked for a meeting which is not often. It is the F. C. Peters room, which is in the back left corner of the library at the end of the rows of study carrels. Right now the room has a table and chairs and Jennifer (the librarian) is trying to find some comfortable chairs to put in there for use while in prayer. There will also be paper and a pen to write prayers down as soon as I am able to arrange that. I am really excited about the room and I hope you are able to make use of it.
Pj’s and Praise is back from previous years. It is in the common lounge and starts at 9:45pm every Tuesday night. You do not have to live in residence to come; someone will be glad to let you in so that you can join us in prayer, praise and devotions.
In the chapel there will be a table set up for anyone who wants to write down prayer requests. The table will be in front of the sound booth. Please feel free to write out your prayer requests, and if you want you are welcome to write your name down but anonymous is fine as well. It will be someone on the Spiritual Life Committee’s responsibility to check the prayer request basket and then have someone pray for that situation. I hope that you will make use of this opportunity for prayer and not feel that your situation is not good enough to be prayed for.
If you want to get involved in any of these things or have other ideas, swing by the student council office on a Tuesday morning and I would love to talk to you. That is all I have for you now. Keep growing, study hard, keep challenging and being challenged.
Remember you are Free in Christ!
In Christ,
Robbie Oleniuk
