The Hike – Hilton Falls Conservation Area
Yet again a number of EBC students lead by Tim Grace went on another Hike on February 14th to Hilton Falls Conservation Area. For some, the thaw we had the previous week led to disappointment because we had originally planned on snowshoeing, but this hike will definitely be one that I remember. On the hike other than Tim Grace we had Amy Beirnes, Helen Oviedo, Matthew Gates, Angel Taylor, Sarah Capeling, Heather Capeling and myself. The first of the two main things that stood out in my mind was the waterfall. Simply put it was amazing to see the way the mist froze along the banks of the river, creating all kinds of fascinating and wonderful ice formations. On top of that due to the recent thaw the water level was high making the waterfall even more of a sight to behold. The second thing that really stood out was the birds. Well only one bird actually, one bird that decided it wanted to land on my sandwich as I was holding it, just after I had taken a bite. That sure got a jump out of me. All in all, the hike was a nice way to spend some time with a group of people from EBC while not at EBC. We saw lots of snow and ice, as well as trees, sky and some foliage. Oh and to remind someone that Michigan is a State in the US.
